Conventions in the New England area are few and far between. Luckily though we do have one that comes back every year…ROCK AND SHOCK. Though small compared to conventions like HorrorHound Weekend, it still attracts the very best in horror and science fiction and is a guaranteed good time. Unfortunately, this year the Daves were unable to attend but thanks to their friend Brock Papineau, we are able to bring you a series of pictures to show you some of the great talent this convention draws!!! We want to thank Brock for these pics! ENJOY!

A NEW Coffin for Horror Host, Svengoolie!
It’s after 1am and I’ve just returned from one VERY memorable evening. I attended Elgin, Illinois’ “Nightmare on Chicago Street” which I can say with 100% sincerity was the most satisfying Halloween season event I’ve attended to date! There will be MUCH more on that in future posts. Not only was the event loads of fun, it was downright historic for us Svengoolie fans. After 40 plus years, and a Rich Koz make-over, the original Svengoolie coffin is going into a much-deserved retirement. TONIGHT its successor was finally revealed…
Make an Appointment to see “Dayplanner of the Dead!”
If you attend horror events on a regular basis, sooner or later you’ll run into a t-shirt that reads: “I’d rather see a bad zombie movie than no zombie movie at all.” Filmmakers seem more than aware of that mindset, and they flood the market with zombie films that seem designed to be exactly that. But a group of filmmakers in Michigan are ready to break the mold this October when they begin shooting their new comedy, Dayplanner of the Dead.
A Fan Fix for “Night of the Living Dead’s” Evans City Cemetery Chapel!
While Zombies can trace their cinematic roots as far back as 1929, there is little doubt that the birth of the “modern” Zombie took place in the tumultuous year of 1968. Though I was still a couple years away from being born myself, I can not imagine what must have been going through the average American’s mind during that time. The Viet Nam War was raging, violent protests sparked throughout the nation, Martin Luther King & Bobby Kennedy were assassinated, Elvis staged a comeback, while The Beatles released their infamous WHITE album. What better time for the dead to return and devour the living?
2012 Horrorhound Weekend Costume Contest (Part 1)!
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again….it’s always the fans themselves that are the best part of any genre convention! Especially the ones that decide to dress up in costumes. These folks don’t need Halloween to strut their sinister stuff on the killer cat-walk and both Daves are always amazed at the incredible creativity that goes into many of them. There were quite a few monstrous characters walking around the 2012 Ohio Horrorhound Weekend but, fortunately, we were able to catch many in one spot as they converged for the Saturday night costume contest!
Those Crazy, Costumed Women at Horrorhound Weekend!
This awesome devil creation is Jaimie Dennis.
This year’s HorrorHound Weekend in Columbus, OH was a tribute to women in horror, featuring such awesome guests as Lori Cardille, Cassandra Peterson, Pam Grier, Julie Adams and Tippi Hedren. One thing that amazed me though were the women guests in costumes! Every horror convention is loaded with people in costume, usually showcasing that person’s favorite character from their favorite horror film. More often than not these costumed characters are guys, but at this event we were treated to a lot of women in costumes. What was even better is that in almost all cases the costumes were original creations and I was very impressed!
