“Sinister” is So-So.

Last weekend, on a crisp Rhode Island day, I went and saw the movie SINISTER with the other founding Dave of this site, David Albaugh. We’d seen FRANKENWEENIE the day before and we both enjoyed it, though not as enthusiastically as Dr. Destruction apparently did (see HERE). Now it was on to something a bit more serious. I’d been enamored with this movie the moment I saw the preview and was cautiously optimistic. In other words…the way I need to be before going to see ANY horror movie these days.

Monster Movie, “Hypothermia,” left me COLD!

I have to say, this is one of those blogs that I almost hate myself for writing. Generally when I critique a movie I try and keep it focused on the mainstream/bigger budget stuff because, in my view, it’s open game. This was actually my second visit to the Flashback Weekend convention, and, in many ways, it was a “flashback” to my experience the previous year; however, it was even more fun the second time around!

I arrived at the convention just after it opened on Saturday morning.  As soon as I was in, I found out where Svengoolie would be signing later that day, and started browsing the vendor room.

As I perused the many diverse and unique tables, I saw a face that is likely familiar to anyone who’s attended a convention in the Chicagoland area…

“Body of a killer.  Mind of a puppy.”  It’s the always-fun Kitty Zombie!

No Trick, FRANKENWEENIE is all Treat! Review by DR. DESTRUCTION!

I became a fan of Tim Burton early on because of THE Nightmare Before Christmas and ED WOOD  which came out the following year. I anticipated every thing he did after that but never did he seem to match that initial first impression I got from those two films. I had learned after that he had been responsible for PEE WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE, BEETLEJUICE, and EDWARD SCISSORHANDS.
