In early 2015, I wrote a blog on Remco Toys, emphasizing their 9″ monster toys of the early 80’s (see original piece HERE). This piece was also our introduction to artist Kris Mobley, a fan of these toys with the plan of immortalizing them in art form. Later in the year he introduced to the world the first in the series, an art print of the Creature From The Black Lagoon (see piece HERE). Kris is now back to announce the 2nd print in the series is almost ready to go. This time he is offering up Dracula.

REMCO CREATURE PRINT IS HERE!!!
Earlier this year I did a blog on the company REMCO Toys, emphasizing their monster figure line (seen HERE). Not only was this a great introduction to the toys, but it also introduced us to Kris Mobley, an artist who grew up with these toys and wanted to create a limited edition tribute to the Creature From The Black Lagoon figure.
Remco Monster Figures – A Blast From The Past!
I am a huge fan of toys; always have been, always will be. Growing up, I always leaned towards toys with a science fiction theme for my hours of playtime fun and some of my favorites were Mego’s Micronauts and the World’s Greatest Super-Heroes 8″ action figure line as well as the original Kenner Star Wars toys. While researching this article, and the toy company REMCO, I found that I also had a lot of what they had to offer back in the day. They may not have been the largest toy-making company but they did offer a wide variety of toys that made us boys drool when we saw the commercials or saw them offered in the annual Sears Catalog Christmas Wishbook.
MONSTER ISLAND TOYS – A Great Place To Visit!
One of the highlights of the Daves Zoo Tour 2014 has been the little side trips we have been doing, exploring other interests outside of the animal kingdom. On my second day in the Chicago area we visited a store that is a dream come true, as it caters to Godzilla fans. The name of the store is Monster Island Toys and though it is kind of unassuming from the outside, the inside is chock full of eye candy for Godzilla fans and toy lovers!
Cool Toys of Christmas Past: The Stretch Monster!
So far as this Monster Kid was concerned, December 25, 1978 would rank as my finest Christmas haul EVER! Not only did I receive my STAR WARS Creature Cantina along with its monster denizens, but also a big green monster I’d long been pining for. No, not The Incredible Hulk…I’m referring to the infamous Stretch Monster!
Do you remember…GRE-GORY, BIG BAD VAMPIRE BAT?
Gre-Gory, the Big Bad Vampire Bat, by Mattel, is a toy that though I never owned personally, is one I always remembered! Being a monster fan as a child meant monster toys that for the most part were few and far between. I remember when I first saw the commercials for this toy it was something I wanted immediately (though to be honest, I don’t remember why I never got one)! This toy came out in 1978 and to this day I am surprised that it never made it to my Christmas list!
