If there was a finale for our weekend at the 2017 Indianapolis Days of the Dead convention, then surely the costume contest was it. I arrived at the hall early and roughly the same time that many of the contestants did. Just the few I passed on my way in let me know I was in for a treat. Some of the costumes weren’t just creative but downright brave. Case in point, a giant-sized Count Chocula that towered over all of us. As hard as it was for me to maneuver that crowded hallway, I could only imagine how tough it must have been for him.

“Dawn of the Dead” cast dishes on Zombies, Short People, & George Romero!
The Days of the Dead horror convention opened back up for business at 11 am that Saturday. We arrived shortly after the doors opened and noticed immediately that there were at least twice as many conventioneers as the night before. The Dawn of the Dead panel was slated to feature Ken Foree, David Emge, Gaylen Ross, and Scott H. Reiniger but Emge canceled his appearance Thursday, leaving the other three to answer questions concerning their roles and working with Romero himself. Sadly, Romero, who was slated to attend this event also cancelled due to poor health. The following was transcribed from audio of that panel…
VHS Video Cover Art – Time to bring that old video store back home!
So how many of you can remember that crazy time in American history when we didn’t have Netflix, Red Box, or Amazon instant streaming? If you can recall those Dark Ages, then let me date you even further by asking if you remember when VHS tapes were king and the only place you could get your fix of those was at a local video store? I grew up in Homewood, Illinois and was about twelve years old when the phenomena of home video first began. I can still remember the excitement of us watching my dad attach our first VHS player to the family television set. The idea of being able to watch a movie when you felt like it, or taping shows off your favorite channel so you could catch them later, seemed just too good to be true.
Richard Braden and his NecroCreep FX Creations!
Richard Braden is a name that fans of Terror From Beyond The Daves may or may not be aware of (and if you’re not, then you should be). Richard has been a friend of the Daves since day one and was instrumental, even as a teenager, in getting our website off the ground. The Daves may know horror but tend to know less about being tech-savvy (though we are learning). If it wasn’t for Richard, who knows how the site would’ve looked when we originally went live as not only did he help with the overall appearance of the site originally but he helped design our logo and he taught us so much when it comes to WordPress. In 2010 we did a bit of an expose on Richard (seen HERE) and now it’s time for everyone to know what he has been up to in the past 5 years, and it has been a lot.

We couldn’t be more proud of Richard, not only with what he has done for us but with also what he is accomplishing now. He is pursuing his dream and both Daves cannot wish him enough luck and happiness. Recently I caught up with Richard and he agreed to do an interview with me letting the world know what he has been doing.
VIRTUAL REALITY, REAL TERROR! by Brandon Engel
The Daves would once again like to welcome guest blogger Brandon Engel! He has been a great contributor to this site and we are always anxious to see what he comes up with next!
Virtual reality is sweeping through the world of gaming, with major studios announcing upcoming titles that will take full advantage of the verisimilitude made possible by this rapidly emerging tech. One of the genres most affected by these changes is horror, as developers use VR to create new ways of both terrorizing and entertaining all who chase the thrill of fear. Producers of horror movies are also exploring the use of VR, and countless other industries stand to be impacted as well.
2013 Horrorhound Weekend Part 2: The Costumes!
There was no doubt that the fan costumes (many of which seemed to mix gore with sex appeal) kicked things up to whole new levels at Horrorhound Weekend! Check em’ out!
