The 2017 Rhode Island Comic Con has come and gone and as in past years, Terror From Beyond The Daves was there. I have been coming to this event regularly and seen it grow and develop into a convention to be reckoned with. It truly is the biggest show in the smallest state.

BOOK REVIEW: “Pumpkin Cinema: The Best Movies For Halloween”

If you are a regular visitor of this site then you know how much the Daves love Halloween. It is one of our favorite holidays and we are always looking for way to make it even better. Both of us have an annual tradition of pulling out our favorite movies to get us in the mood, or Halloween spirit.

Everybody does different things to celebrate the night when the barrier between the living and the supernatural is at its thinnest. You may go trick or treating. You may go visit a haunted house, real or made up. You may do a movie marathon of your favorite horror movies with friends. No matter what you end up doing, it is guaranteed to help the night be more memorable than any other night of the year. Now there is a book that can help make it even better!

“Pumpkin Cinema: The Best Movies For Halloween” came out in 2014 to very little fanfare. It was not advertised anywhere and to be honest, I came across it by accident on Amazon. When I received it I immediately fell in love with it and cannot recommend it more.

Chasing Amy and Seeing Gremlins in the Fright Night Dealer Rooms!

1

After spending most of our first night at the Fright Night/Fandomfest standing in lines we decided it was time to make our pilgrimage back to the main hotel and check out the dealer rooms they had there. There were two main areas for vendors; the Kentucky Convention Center where the big celebrities and photo ops were (which featured more comic book related items) and the hotel which centered more on horror.

“Fright Night on Channel 9” Brought Eastern US Chills!

I have always been nostalgic, especially when it comes to things that made me happy as a child. Whether it was the awesome toys put out by one of the leading toy companies of the time (Mego), awesome Saturday morning cartoons (which also including amazing live action shows by Sid & Marty Krofft) or even the cool ads in comic books (as covered HERE), I will always look back at these things and it will always make me smile. One thing I will never forget is that every Saturday, after the cartoons and professional wrestling were over, it was time for the Creature Double Feature, broadcast on UHF station WLVI Channel 56 out of Boston.

Does the 2011 “Fright Night” Have the Same Bite as the Original?

Let me start by saying that I absolutely hate remakes. Anyone that has followed me on here knows that and my reasoning is simple…nine out of ten times they suck! The fact that so many of the movies coming out today are sequels or remakes really shows the state of Hollywood! They have literally run out of ideas (and I am sure it is a lot cheaper to hire someone to re-write something that worked in the 80’s then to hire someone with an original thought in their head).

Mr. Lobo and Dixie’s Excellent Adventure!

I was happily surprised to run into Mr. Lobo and Dixie at the annual FRIGHT NIGHT FILM FEST in Kentucky! As mentioned in our recent Atomic Age Cinema piece, horror hosts were slated to appear at this event but Mr. Lobo wasn’t one of them. Needless to say, the sight of the spectacled host wearing his signature suit & green/black striped tie was a welcomed one at that! I found the mastermind of Cinema Insomnia chatting with Blake Powell, the guru behind Midnite Mausoleum, and wasted no time interrupting the two late night TV mavericks.
