Forgetting Sarah Michelle Gellar: Buffy the Vampire Slayer Remembered…

The genre crowd is abuzz regarding the news that our beloved “Slayer,” Sarah Michelle Gellar, will be returning to commercial television – both acting as well as serving as executive producer for a new Fall series titled “Ringer.” Gellar plays a woman on the run who conceals herself via the identity of her wealthy twin sister. I am a fan of Gellar and absolutely wish her all the best and will definitely check out the new show despite having mixed feelings.

THE RETURN OF FANGORIA!

img475Latest issue of FANGORIA!

Last year I posted a blog expressing my disappointment with what had once been my favorite horror/gore magazine (a post you can check out HERE). Over the last few years, the iconic FANGORIA  seemed to go from subversive pleasure to mainstream “sell out.” Disillusioned readers (such as myself) began flocking to newer alternatives such as Horrorhound and Rue Morgue (Horrorhound becoming my new favorite). My devotion to FANGORIA was such that this did not come without a certain level of “guilt.” In fact, I held on to the magazine long after most of my fellow horror friends had given up.

As stated in the aforementioned article, I allowed my subscription to expire and assumed (as I walked away cold turkey) that it would be a long time before I’d ever open another issue.

Never say never!

The First Year of Terror from Beyond the Daves!

classic1year1

It’s hard to believe that it has been a year already since David Albaugh and Dave Fuentes teamed up to create Terror From Beyond The Daves. When we met we instantly clicked, finding so many things in common. It was a natural progression for us to take our passions and share them with all of you! This past year has been nothing short of amazing!

Not only did we prove that we have one of the best friendships ever, we have met so many new and exciting friends! This site has opened so many doors for us and we haven’t looked back once. Of course we couldn’t have done this without the support of all of the great horror hosts out there! Hanging out with all of you at HorrorHound Weekend in March of this year was a dream come true for both of us and we look forward to doing it again really soon! We also want to thank all of the convention promoters who have been so kind to us, letting us do our job to promote their shows in the best possible way. Lastly we want to thank everyone who has been a part of the site, whether as a guest blogger, a contributing artist (that’s right Brian Maze…we mean YOU!) or just a fan who visits us on occasion, you are all what helps make this site the success it has become!

We have big plans for the next year and we want all of you to be a part of it so stay tuned and celebrate with us!

CALL OF THE DEAD: Buffy, Trejo, Englund, and Rooker vs Romero’s Zombies!

TERROR FROM BEYOND THE DAVES welcomes guest writer, Alex Fuentes, for a teen review of an amazing new game!

I consider myself a serious video game player. One of my favorite games would be CALL OF DUTY: ZOMBIES where your job is to take on constant waves of zombie hordes while seeing how long you can survive on your own – or with your friends.

During the game, you will discover secrets behind the characters as well as how the zombies came to be. The company behind this game, “Treyarch,” came out with a content pack that would not only be suitable for the average gamer, but for horror fans as well. Expanding on their extremely popular CALL OF DUTY game, they recently released a spin-off titled CALL OF THE DEAD.

AUTO SHOW FROM HELL: Featuring the truck from DUEL!

duelrig11-683x510

This weekend, the city of Chicago was buzzing with the opening of their annual Auto Show taking place Feb 11-20th at The McCormick Place. This is the nation’s largest show of its kind and always attracts a loyal group of gearheads & those interested in checking out the latest models. One year I recall sitting inside a replica of the tour jeep used in 1993’s Jurassic Park. Regardless of past participation, I must confess that I’m not much of a car person; if the damned thing runs I honestly don’t care what it looks like. However, there are some vehicles on the Silver Screen that I can’t help but admire.

Thankful Beyond the Daves!

th

This is the season of thankfulness and the Daves can’t think of any Thanksgiving where we’ve been more grateful. A year ago at this time we were a couple of die hard Svengoolie fans (which we still are) who had no idea what other amazing personalities existed outside Chicago City Limits. Now we use names like Zomboo, Dr. Destruction, The Bone Jangler, and Wolfman Mac in everyday conversation and have amassed huge samplings of the work of many hosts from across the country. We also now have an actual venue for which to share our appreciation of them, as well as the world of horror fandom in general. We’ve really enjoyed doing this and can’t imagine life without it. There are so many people we wish to thank (not the least of which you the reader) but, rather than write a generic “thanks,” we’d really like to break down our appreciation to those folks who really helped make this one of our best years ever!
