THE HILLYWOOD SHOW – In the Words of George Takei, “Oh My!”

If you have not heard of The Hillywood Show and the Hindi Sisters (visit their website HERE) then you have probably been living under a rock. Hilly and Hannah are internet sensations with their video parodies of genre films and television shows. They take something that they love and in their parodies have fun and share with the audience things they are passionate about.

I first became aware of them thanks to fellow Terror Dave Dave Fuentes, who forwarded me a link to their Walking Dead Parody. Done to Queen’s “Another One Bites The Dust” this video totally blew me away. From the costumes and locations to the dance routines and special effects, it was obvious this duo knew what they were doing. I watched this video over and over and then started exploring what else they had to offer.

I quickly found their parodies of Doctor Who and Supernatural, my personal favorites. These videos are not shot in somebody’s backyard with costumes you can buy at any Halloween store. The production value on these creations are second to none and all you have to do is see one of their offerings to know that these girls mean business. You would never know that these mini-movies were shot on such a small budget!

Also surprising is how polished the end product is considering that they never attended film school and are entirely self-taught when it comes to writing, filming and editing. Though The Walking Dead Parody features an existing song, the remaining parodies are done ala “Weird Al” Yankovic with the girls writing new lyrics to an existing song to cater to what they need for the parody.

Their YouTube Channel (seen HERE) has over one million subscribers and to be honest, I am not surprised. Their fan base is as dedicated to them as are the fans that are dedicated to the very things they are parodying. They never make fun of things in a mean way and like any artist show complete respect with their subject matter.

Their Doctor Who Parody is amazing, done to “The Time Warp” from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Hilly is perfectly cast as David Tennant’s version of the Doctor and Hannah as companion Donna Noble is astounding. The production features many props and characters that are so perfect you would think that the BBC sent them over from England to them!

What’s nice about these parodies is that it reflects what great fans both Hilly and Hannah are and they really know these shows and movies. Someone on YouTube actually put together a side-by-side comparison of the Doctor Who Parody and the scenes they were imitating and it has to be seen to be believed.

The parody of Supernatural is my personal all-time favorite, so much so that I immediately not only bought one of their “Shake It Off” t-shirts but one of their autograph pictures as well. Hilly’s portrayal of Dean Winchester is dead-on perfect. She has Jensen Ackles mannerisms down perfectly and Hannah as Castiel and Osric Chau as Sam round out the cast in such an amazing way. Not only do they parody Supernatural, but also Taylor Swifts music video as well.

This parody uses Taylor Swift’s song “Shake It Off,” altered to go along with the storyline where Dean gets the Mark of Cain. Like with Doctor Who, many scenes were recreated seamlessly. To take it a step further, this parody actually features many of the cast and crew from Supernatural, showing how much even they support the Hillywood Show.

One of the things that have amazed me most is not only the support of the fans but also the support of people from the shows and movies as well. Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, both from Supernatural, have both been vocal about loving what the Hindi Sisters do. Even the BBC and the cast of Doctor Who have recognized their efforts, and that is saying a lot.

Unfortunately these parodies do cost money and being an internet sensation doesn’t pay the bills. Both girls work “real” jobs and make these parodies in their spare time. Sponsors are few and far between so they now rely on their fans to help out whenever possible. Just recently they set up a Patreon page (go HERE) where people can donate on a monthly basis to help finance these amazing videos.

I don’t usually support people who ask for money through places like Patreon or GoFundMe but when it really came down to it, I want these girls to keep making parodies. I am now a “Rick Grimes” supporting member and am glad I can do this. One thing I will say is that they do keep you informed of everything that is going on through e-mails, website updates and even live chats. They appreciate their fans and are not afraid to show it. There are also perks that they give, depending on which supporting package you become a part of. Also, did I mention that 10% goes to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital?

The first parody Hilly and Hannah did thanks to Patreon is HOCUS POCUS, the 1993 film starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. This one is done to the song “Kidnap the Sandy Claws” from the Tim Burton movie THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS.

Once again the girls have outdone themselves, putting together a fun mini-movie perfectly capturing the spirit and fun of the original movie. Costumes and makeup are dead on and the sets and props are just so perfect. Already people from the original movie have expressed how much they enjoyed the parody.

This Dave cannot recommend the Hillywood Show enough. Please support them as they put so much time and effort into what they do to entertain us. You can follow them on Twitter HERE or on Facebook HERE. Even if you can’t support them financially, get the word out if you can. And while you’re at it, check out their parodies of the TWILIGHT series, THE LORD OF THE RINGS, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN and THE HOBBIT! Their YouTube page also features many behind the scenes videos of them making the parodies. You just can’t go wrong with Hilly and Hannah Hindi!
