  1. Hi Daves,
Just a quick note to let you know that Rick Koz will be doing the narration for the 45th anniversary CREATURECAST tribute to WGN’s Creature Features which will air on Halloween night on http://www.wgncreaturefeatures.tvheaven.com the film will be “Return of the Vampire” with Bela Lugosi. Tune in to see this very special event, with a brand new poem written by the original series writer Karen Verwolf. This will be a once in a lifetime event….Don’t miss it!

    • I still do not see this movie being released legally anytime soon, unfortunately. BUT, you do have other options! There was a commercially released DVD set from a few years back called INVADERS FROM OUTER SPACE. It features 6 movies on 3 discs. The films are ZONTAR, THE THING FROM VENUS, THE BRAIN FROM PLANET AROUS, INVASION OF THE SAUCER-MEN, THE CAME FROM BEYOND SPACE, ROBOT MONSTER and PHANTOM FROM SPACE. The quality of the prints vary and this set was pulled from the market when the powers-that-be realized that Saucer-Men was on it. Copies are usually available on eBay. Also on eBay is a set called ULTIMATE B-MOVIE COLLECTION. Though I do not condone bootlegs, this is a nice set featuring the cleanest copies I have ever seen of the four movies included (I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF, I WAS A TEENAGE FRANKENSTEIN, INVASION OF THE SAUCER-MEN and IT CONQUERED THE WORLD). All four films (on four discs) have yet to be released officially and may never be. Of the two sets I do recommond this one more. It is nicely put together. If you do an eBay search of INVASION OF THE SAUCER-MEN you should have no problems locating it.

  3. This is the first time I am asking something like this. My granddaughter Kaylah is a 6th grade honor student who draws like an adult. Loves Freddy foz- bear .and werepups. She is a loner of sorts. This sweet young girl was molested by a trusted family friend who is now in jail. I would love to get a werepup for her but being on disability find it hard to come up with the funds. Her.mom is in school for nursing . Would there be any chance out of the kindness of your heart that you would send her a werewolf of her own. I think this would bring so much Joya back into her life. Thank You

  4. Dave, I enjoyed your review of the “Curse of the Demon” blue ray DVD. It brought back a lot of memories for me of just how terrific this atmospheric thriller really was. Although you and I fall on opposite sides of the debate as to whether or not the demon should have been shown on screen, I think everyone would agree that this was a fantastic film. A spirited debate on the “show the monster – no show” question helps keep these films alive in our memories.

The only thing that I found disappointing was the description of Dana Andrews in the bonus DVD as a “drunk”. Alcoholism is a disease and Andrews was one of the first Hollywood celebrities that I can recall who openly faced his own inner demon and fought-and eventually managed to control it- to the best of his ability. As a child, there were numerous alcoholics in my family and I remembered how startled I was when I saw Mr. Andrews on a TV PSA announce coldly and matter of factly… “Hello, I’m Dana Andrews and I am an alcoholic.” That took guts.

Attitudes have changed for the better in this regard and I am sure Andrews really WAS a handful on the set; yet his performance on screen was top notch.

Looking forward to seeing the blue ray version of this classic!

    • Thanks for your comments and thoughtful insights, Mark. I agree that Hal E. Chester’s remarks concerning Dana Andrews were insensitive, especially by today’s standards. I agree that alcoholism is no joke and applaud Andrews for his bravery in confronting it. One thing you’ll walk away with after seeing the Bonus material is just how much those two men despised one another. Their mutual disdain is palpable and time apparently did nothing to heal those resentments. I agree that whether Andrews was inebriated or not is inconsequential as his performance was top notch. As for the monster, I’m fairly certain most film aficionados would agree with you that less would have been more. But to live in a world without that fantastic creature design in it? For a monster-man like me, that would be the ultimate curse!
