Initially when I saw the preview for Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s horror/comedy, This is the End, I had little desire to see it. With a cast of popular comedic actors all playing themselves (a practice that usually ends up becoming more self-indulgent than entertaining) I worried this romp would end up too silly. I’m happy to report that, while it certainly was silly at times, it also managed to stay consistently funny!

HATCHET III: Three Hatchets are NOT the charm!
Terror from Beyond the Daves is pleased to welcome back, David Albaugh…
This past weekend saw the release of the much-anticipated third entry in the Adam Green horror trilogy, HATCHET. You could either see this in select theaters or OnDemand and, since there weren’t any theaters in my area chosen for this film, I opted for OnDemand.
Movie Mash-up: THE STRANGERS vs. THE PURGE!
Drones and Clones mark OBLIVION!
After seeing numerous trailers for the new hit film, Oblivion, I was compelled to run out and see it on its opening weekend (and I wasn’t alone as the box office would later prove). I consider myself as big a fan of science fiction as I am of horror so my fervor would have been a no-brainer had it not been for the presence of Tom Cruise…namely, the fact that I can’t stand him! No, he’s never done anything to me personally and I don’t judge people by their religious choices (so long as they aren’t hurting anybody), but man does he bug me for some reason. Maybe it’s because he reminds me of the snarky, good looking kid in high school who always ran off with the girl I had a crush on, who knows…
THE EVIL DEAD thrill the Living!
I’m interrupting my Horrorhound Weekend diaries with a review of what has to be the most anticipated horror film of 2013 thus far! Yes, I’m referring to none other than…The Evil Dead remake! Throughout this past week one could hardly navigate their Facebook feeds without being inundated with numerous posts and poster shots of this long-awaited film (or maybe I just “friended” one too many horror fans)! This naturally begs the question; was it worth all of the hype or yet another source of horror fan frustration?
“Dark Skies” Brightens the Theater for UFO Buffs and those that Want to Believe!
I have to admit that it’s been a while since I really enjoyed seeing a movie on the big screen. Oh sure, I’ve seen plenty of films that were “okay” and it’s always nice getting out with friends, but there have been few where I felt drawn in to the story or any type of reaction for that matter. Last Friday, I headed out to see DARK SKIES. I didn’t know much about the film except that it dealt with alien visitors and, ironically, I have been in a UFO kind of mood these days. I decided to give it and, must say, I was pleasantly surprised!
